Spend Canada Day weekend in the capital region of Ottawa for a truly memorable experience as a visitor or homegrown Canadian. This annual holiday is the national birthday for the entire country, with celebrations occurring all over the nation and a particularly extravagant one happening in Ottawa.

Here's how you can make the most of Canada Day Weekend in Ottawa:

June 30 - Head to Major's Hill Park

This family-friendly event takes place on the scenic and green Major's Hill Park. Find live performances from artists like DJ Domeno, Élage Diouf, Tyler Shaw, Corneille and Tokyo Police Club. Activities also include exhibitions and demonstrations such as a henna station, the Hockey Circus Show, the Immersive Investigation game by Trik Truk and much more.

July 1 - 8AM start at Parliament Hill

The early bird gets the historical significance. The official Canada Day ceremony at Parliament Hill begins at 8 a.m., an early but important start which opens with an Algonquin grounds blessing, a Carillion Concert, and continue with noon and evening performances. Expect to hear tunes from Canadian from artists such as the National Arts Centre Orchestra, K’Naan, T. Thomason, Les Ballets Jazz de Montréal, Shawnee, Coeur de Pirate, Marie Mai, and Brett Kissel.

July 1 - Cap off your night with a firework show

After the morning and afternoon festivities, head back to Major's Hill Park for an evening pyromusical firework show—only a five-minute jaunt from the Hill. This dazzling show will close the gathering to an entirely 100% Canadian score.

Concession stands, first aid booths, and bathrooms will be set-up around all official event sites: Parliament Hill, Major’s Hill Park, and the Canadian Museum of History, Gatineau.
