Maple season has arrived and that means that many of the region’s sugar shacks are open for business (with COVID-19 precautions in place, of course). Grab your friends and family and plan a maple syrup-filled weekend at any one of the cabanes a sucre below.

Maple Fest at Proulx Maple & Berry Farm

Proulx Maple & Berry Farm has been serving up delicious maple syrup for over three decades. From February to April, this scenic farm turns into an outdoor fun zone filled with activities for the whole family. They have four loop trails for snowshoeing, cross country skiing, and walking, as well as outdoor fire pits, play structures, a maze, and a petting zoo. Best of all, they also have a sugar shack on-site where visitors can see how maple sap is transformed into maple syrup and try some for themselves! Be sure to visit the farm store for even more maple products.

Wheelers Pancake House

Head to the country where you’ll find Wheeler’s Pancake House. This family-owned eatery is known for their pancakes, French toast, and sausages, all of which is served in a lodge, sugar shack-style space. In addition to serving up some of the tastiest pancakes around Ottawa, they also produce their own maple syrup. They have a sugar camp, a Maple Heritage Museum, and a Forest & Farm Museum on-site for people of all ages to enjoy. There are also outdoor trails for hiking and snowshoeing. Wheeler’s Pancake House is currently accepting reservations between Thursday and Sunday.

Winter in Fulton at Fulton’s Pancake House

Less than one hour from Ottawa lies Fulton’s Pancake House. Each winter, they host their own Winter in Fulton event, where visitors come from all over to experience their pancakes and Sugar Bush. Fulton’s is home to 400 acres of sugarbush, and has over 8 kilometres of trails made for skiing or snowshoeing. It’s a great spot to enjoy nature and maybe even do some bird watching. In addition to nature, Fulton’s produces organic maple syrup, which is available in their Maple Farm Store. The Pancake House is also open, but only for takeout this year.

If you’re heading to Ottawa this spring, then be sure to take advantage of sugar shack season! And if you need a place to stay during your visit, we’d love to host you at the Best Western Plus Ottawa City Centre
