Anyone with an appetite should head over to Ottawa this August. Beyond the buzzing restaurant scene year-round, this summer features some awesome events where you can eat your favourite things or try something brand new! Pack your stretchy pants and check out these events:
 

Capital Ribfest | August 3-7

 
You probably won’t find many vegans here, but for anyone who loves a good barbecue, this is the place to be. Capital Ribfest will be taking over downtown Ottawa and cooking up some tasty pork ribs, beef ribs, pulled pork, chicken, and all the other sides and fixings you love, such as coleslaw, corn-on-the-cob, fries, and more. Bring the whole family – even pets are allowed. Admission is free and a full rack of ribs is just $25. Please note Ribfest is a cash-only event!
 

Ottawa Greek Fest | August 10-20

 
Ottawa’s annual celebration of Greek culture and traditions is obviously about more than just food, but the cuisine is certainly a highlight. Experience live Greek music, dances, language lessons, and cultural exhibits, and when you’ve worked up an appetite, prepare for a treat. All the food at Greek Fest is fresh, home cooked, and made on-site. Get a taste of Mediterranean flavours including olive oil, soft cheeses, honey, and lots of herbs. Try some authentic souvlaki, gyros, and moussaka, and try some delicious, sweet loukoumades for dessert. If you’re especially keen, there will even be cooking demonstrations!
 

Capital Fair | August 18-27

 
Summer isn’t complete without a classic fair. Take the family, your best friends, or a date and stroll down the Midway. After checking out the free Grandstand entertainment, or perhaps the awesome Monster Truck show, pick your favourite fair food and indulge on cotton candy, funnel cake, and snow cones. You can probably find a few deep fried candy bars too. No one said it was healthy, but it sure is delicious.
