Ottawa is more than just the capital of Canada – it’s a reflection of Canada’s status as a cultural mosaic, a place where people from around the world can come and call home. Nowhere is that diversity reflected more than in the restaurants of downtown Ottawa, where you can indulge in tasty cuisines from around the globe – all in Ottawa’s famous Byward Market!

SHINKA SUSHI BAR

Sushi is a favourite all over Canada, and Shinka is one of Ottawa’s best places to dine on the quintessentially Japanese food. Using top quality local and flash frozen fish, Shinka’s specialty rolls combine the best of classical Japanese tradition with new world flair. It’s a great place for a full sit down meal or just a quick snack while shopping in Byward Market!

AHORA MEXICAN RESTAURANT

Voted Ottawa’s top Mexican restaurant multiple times over multiple publications since opening in 2004, Ahora is where you want to get a traditional Mexican meal with a twist! Enchiladas, tamales, carnitas and more, all served with savoury rice and beans and just a hint of queso fresco. There are also options for spiciness, so you’ll find something to enjoy whether you’re a veteran chili hound or a find bell peppers spicy!

DARCY MCGEES

If there’s one food Ireland is famous for, it’s Guiness – “the beer that eats like a meal!” The perfect way to end any day shopping in Byward is with a pint, and we like to get a traditional one at Darcy McGee’s Irish pub. The beer is naturally excellent, but it’s also a great place to grab pub fare – pub fare like Canada’s signature dish, the poutine!
Even in the depths of winter, Byward Market is still alive. Come visit Ottawa this January, and stay at the Best Western Plus Ottawa City Centre.
