Summer has arrived and the pandemic is under control, which means it’s time to get outdoors! Thankfully, Ottawa is excited to be hosting a wide range of summer events, all of which are both fun and COVID-safe. From hiking through a scenic park to a retro drive-in movie experience, check out the top three things to do in Ottawa this July.

Pirate Life Ottawa

One part theatrical experience, another part boat cruise is what you get at the one-of-a-kind Pirate Life Ottawa attraction. This experience will have you boarding a look-a-like pirate ship where you’ll become a buccaneer, complete with a costume, face paint, and a pirate name. Pirates will be invited to fire the water cannons and haul up the loot. Tickets cost $29 per person and the ship is even available for birthday party rentals. Pirate Life sets sails at various times throughout the day and will be open until October.

Ontario Parks Free Use Day

Did you know that Ontario Parks Free Use Day is coming up on July 16th? That’s right, for one day only, all provincial parks in Ontario, including those in and around Ottawa, will be hosting free events and activities to encourage people to visit the park and stay active. Upon arrival, all visitors will be issued a complimentary day pass to the park(s) of their choice. Park facilities will be open until 10:00 pm. Must-visit parks near Ottawa include Ottawa River Provincial Park, Fitzroy Provincial Park, and Rideau River Provincial Park.

The Drive-In Experience Ottawa

Travel back in time and enjoy a retro drive-in movie right here in Ottawa courtesy of The Drive-In Experience. This outdoor movie theatre will have you relaxing in your vehicle while watching a new movie or a past classic. This summer’s lineup includes Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Croods 2: New Age, Midsommar, Wrath of Man, and Deadpool 2, to name a few. Movies start at either 5:00 pm or 8:00 pm. Note that concessions aren’t being offered due to COVID-19, but guests are invited to bring whatever snacks they like.

If you’re heading to Ottawa this month, then be sure to check out the family-friendly events above. And if you need a place to stay while in town, you’re always welcome at the Best Western Plus Ottawa City Centre.
